Manchester United supporters voiced their anger at the club's ownership during the Champions League match against Roma at Old Trafford. The protest came as the team continued a nine-game winless run, leaving manager Michael Carrick under serious pressure.
Protests disrupt the match
Before kick-off, fans released green and gold balloons from the Stretford End, the latest demonstration against the Glazer family and, more recently, INEOS. During the first half, tennis balls were thrown onto the pitch, causing a brief stoppage while players cleared them to the side of the field.
United fell 2-0 down within 18 minutes. Matias Soule scored after poor defending, and Donyell Malen converted a penalty following Ayden Heaven's handball. The home crowd booed at half-time and chanted criticism toward the directors, including director of football Jason Wilcox by name.
Further setback after the break
After the interval, summer signing Carlos Baleba was forced off with a hamstring problem in the opening seconds of the second half. The team remains 17th in the Premier League with only two wins all season.
