Manchester United fans booed their team off the pitch after a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, chanting for the owners to sell the club and "f*** off home."
Manager Michael Carrick appeared resigned to the chop after the horror defeat, but fans chanted his name as he made his way past the Stretford End and down the tunnel at full-time. The beleaguered boss even received a standing ovation from fans around the ground at the final whistle.
The show of support was followed by a chorus of boos as the team trudged off the pitch following another dismal performance. The fuming faithful had spent the second half calling out the board.
Fans turn on owners and directors
The Stretford End could be heard chanting: "Best in class, you're having a laugh", and "stick your new stadium up your a***."
Other chants heard clearly included those aimed at owners and directors of the club: "Jason Wilcox, you're a w*****" and "Sell United and f*** off home."
Bournemouth demolished a tired-looking United, with Rayan opening the scoring in the 38th minute before Marcus Tavernier doubled the Cherries' lead before the break.
Bournemouth seal 3-0 win
Bournemouth scored again through Evanilson at the start of the second half, but it was disallowed for offside, before he struck again to make it count. The game ended 3-0, with Manchester United slipping to 16th in the table.
Fans cheered Carrick but booed the players off the pitch, with many seen hurling abuse at captain Bruno Fernandes, who was dropped for the game and left as an unused sub for 90 minutes. Online fans agreed.
One wrote: "This is beyond Carrick. How anyone can blame him for this I don't know," while another added: "I don't recognise this team." Another simply added: "What has happened to my club?"
Carrick speaks on his future
Speaking to Sky Sports after the full-time whistle, Carrick was asked about his future at the club after he appeared to wave goodbye to the United fans: "It wasn't from me. I'm feeling mixed emotions. I feel for the players as they are going through a tough spell.
"Some of it we can help, for some the situation unravels. The boys are feeling it. I have mixed emotions to have that connection with the supporters in the moment we're in. I need time to digest that. I appreciate their support but the situation is where it's at. We haven't been good enough."
He added: "It's a tough situation. What is next? I don't know. I'll always do what's best for this football club. I don't change that now. I love what I do. I love the responsibility. But we'll have to wait and see."
Jamie Carragher, in the Sky Sports studio, was vocal about his future: "Yes, Carrick has to go, but can you put any belief or hope in these people [the United owners and hierarchy] in making the right decision [on who would replace Carrick]. That is the big worry."
He continued: "It's become untenable. Carrick wants to be changed. He doesn't want to be sat in the dugout with those players.
"Can you imagine going into the training ground tomorrow with Bruno Fernandes after not bringing him on? It's a rancid dressing room. He wants to be put out of his misery tonight."
