Patrick Dorgu has returned to training for Manchester United ahead of the Champions League clash with Roma on Tuesday night, giving head coach Michael Carrick an injury boost as he searches for a much-needed victory.
Dorgu has been sidelined since the September international break, when he picked up a hamstring injury while away with Denmark. He has now returned to training, but there was no sign of Marcus Rashford or Luke Shaw as they continue their recovery from injury.
United host Roma at Old Trafford
United welcome Roma to Old Trafford on Tuesday for the first time since a 6-2 win in the Europa League in April 2021, when Carrick was on the coaching staff under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The current head coach scored twice against the same opposition in a 7-1 win in a Champions League quarter-final in April 2007.
Carrick would take a win of any kind at the moment as he fights for his future, having overseen a dismal start to the season that has produced just two wins in 13 games. Defeat to Chelsea on Saturday means United have lost three games in a row and are winless in nine.
Pressure mounts in league phase
Back-to-back Champions League defeats to Atletico Madrid and Como have left United sweating on their future in the competition, with a top-24 finish required to salvage at least a play-off tie in February, which already puts pressure on this league phase fixture.
United still have to welcome RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich to Old Trafford, while they have away games remaining against Sporting CP and Villarreal.
