Manchester City have reportedly approached Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, a year after Pep Guardiola rejected a swap deal involving the Italian international. According to reports, PSG had offered Donnarumma and Marco Verratti in exchange for City midfielder Bernardo Silva in June 2023, but Guardiola intervened to block the move.
Now, the situation has reversed, with current City goalkeeper Ederson Moraes attracting interest from Saudi Arabian clubs Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr. Guardiola is said to be concerned enough about a potential departure that City have already made contact with Donnarumma regarding a transfer.
Donnarumma, 25, joined PSG on a free transfer after helping Italy win Euro 2020. He has won three Ligue 1 titles and the 2024 French Cup with the Parisian club. His current contract runs until June 2026, and he has begun preliminary talks about an extension, but is reportedly intrigued by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.
If Ederson leaves, Guardiola could also turn to backup Stefan Ortega, who proved reliable last season, conceding only four goals in the FA Cup run and starting seven of City's final 11 Premier League matches. Ortega made crucial saves, notably in the victory against Tottenham Hotspur that helped secure a fourth consecutive league title.
Donnarumma played every minute of Italy's European Championship campaign, which ended in the round of 16. He failed to keep a clean sheet during the tournament, with Italy managing only a win against Albania among matches with Croatia, Spain, and Switzerland.
