Hamilton Accies boss Darian MacKinnon played down Dean Lyness' wondersave that ensured they kept their 100 per cent start and clean sheet record intact at East Kilbride on Saturday.
Lyness' stunning save preserves win
Andy Ryan's 16th minute strike had Accies 1-0 up heading into the final stages, but it looked like Kilby would grab a last-gasp equaliser when a cross into the box fell perfectly onto the head of new signing Callum McKenzie inside the six-yard box.
However, Lyness produced a stunning instinctive save to not only keep the ball out at point-blank range, but scoop the low header up and over the bar as Accies held on for a sixth win and shutout on the spin.
MacKinnon's verdict on the save
Both sets of supporters were left in awe of the save, but MacKinnon told the club media: "East Kilbride had a few good chances and Deano has popped up with a couple of good saves - as he should - but we knew it was going to be a tough game because they have good players.
"That's the job of him and the back four, that's what they are paid to do.
"So I expect that from them - and I am not being flippant saying that. I just expect that because I see them in training every day.
"It will be broken eventually, let's not be stupid about it, but the longer it goes it gives them confidence.
"When we do eventually concede one, we need to go another run like that.
"It was a tough game. We got the goal at the right time and we had chances to go further ahead, but when you don't take those chances [you give teams hope].
"There isn't much between every team in this league so I am proud of the players and it is on to the next one."
Lyness on his heroics
Asked about his heroics for Hamilton, Lyness said: "It was just a reaction. I was more cursing myself that I didn't come for the cross but I was just glad I could keep it out at an important point in the game.
"We knew the quality East Kilbride would bring and we knew it would be a really tough afternoon.
"I thought it was a really entertaining game, even though it only finished 1-0, and we are delighted to come away with the three points. You come into every game wanting to keep a clean sheet and it always gives you a chance to win the game.
"We are delighted with the start we have had - but that's all it is. We need to keep building."
What's next for Accies
Accies are three points clear of Ross County at the top of the table, having played a game more, and next up in League One they host joint-bottom Queen of the South on Saturday, September 19. Their scheduled clash with the Staggies at Victoria Park this weekend has been postponed due to the Highlanders playing Hibs in the Premier Sports Cup.
