Luke Littler made his European Tour debut at the Belgian Darts Open in Wieze, but his semi-final victory over Ricardo Pietreczko was marred by a heated confrontation. The 17-year-old prodigy secured a 7-3 win, only for his German opponent to angrily approach him after the match.
Pietreczko, visibly frustrated, walked towards Littler while shaking his head and the pair almost came nose to nose during the handshake. Littler appeared baffled, pointing at Pietreczko with a confused expression before mouthing 'get out' as his opponent left the stage.
Speaking after the match, Littler said: 'No idea what I did wrong, no idea what he said. He said something then [said] don’t do it again.' The teenager had averaged over 104 and hit four maximums in a dominant performance, but Pietreczko seemingly took issue with Littler's confidence during the contest.
Littler's path to the final included victories over Jose de Sousa, Krzysztof Ratajski, Damon Heta, and Jermaine Wattimena, with an impressive 110 average in the quarter-finals. The Dutchman Wattimena was gracious in defeat, lifting Littler's arm in a show of respect that was not reciprocated by Pietreczko.
The incident overshadowed Littler's achievement of reaching his first European Tour final, continuing his remarkable rise since finishing runner-up at the World Darts Championship earlier this year.
