Liverpool will be without Florian Wirtz for tonight's Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven after the German international missed training on Tuesday. Arne Slot's side are looking to return to winning ways following a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, though they have won their last two European games against Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Madrid.
Wirtz was not involved in the final training session before the fixture, while Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong also sat out. Giovanni Leoni remains a long-term absentee with an anterior cruciate ligament tear. However, Joe Gomez is available despite not being fully fit, having required a knee injection last week.
Slot confirmed Gomez would be in the squad but admitted his fitness issues have influenced selection decisions. “He had an injection last week on his knee... that’s normally not because you don’t feel anything,” Slot said. “He wasn’t able to train last week every single time, but he is in the group tomorrow.”
PSV arrive on Merseyside unbeaten in 11 matches, though they have won only four of their Champions League games this season. The Dutch side are without Alassane Plea and Ruben van Bommel. Manager Peter Bosz acknowledged Liverpool’s recent form but stressed his team would stick to their attacking philosophy. “I’d rather play against a team that is not in form than one which is,” he said.
