Liverpool's pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has suffered a setback after the 19-year-old expressed his admiration for Paris Saint-Germain. Diomande, who scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in the Bundesliga last season, is a top target for Liverpool as they seek a replacement for Mohamed Salah.
Speaking at an Ivory Coast press conference, Diomande said: 'Paris Saint-Germain is a team I've loved since I was little. My father is a Paris Saint-Germain supporter, it's a team I admire as a football fan.' In a separate interview with Telefoot, he added: 'It would be a pleasure for me to come and play here with one of the biggest clubs.'
The winger, who joined RB Leipzig from Leganes for €20 million, is currently preparing for the World Cup with Ivory Coast. Despite the comments, Diomande insisted his focus remains on the tournament: 'I don't think I'm thinking about the future or anything else. I'm focused on the World Cup. After that, what will happen is that the clubs will work things out amongst themselves.'
Liverpool face competition from PSG for Diomande's signature, with the French club also keen on the Ivory Coast international. The Reds had identified him as a key summer target, but his public affection for PSG may complicate any potential deal.
