Crystal Palace secured the Community Shield with a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Liverpool at Wembley. Dean Henderson was the hero, saving two spot-kicks as Palace triumphed 4-3 on penalties after a 3-3 draw in normal time.
Liverpool took an early lead through new signing Hugo Ekitike, who scored after just four minutes. Jeremie Frimpong doubled the advantage on his debut, but Palace fought back. Jean-Philippe Mateta converted a penalty to make it 2-1, before Frimpong restored Liverpool's two-goal lead with a cross that looped over Henderson.
In the second half, Liverpool continued to dominate but missed several chances. Palace equalised through Ismaila Sarr after a defensive error from Virgil van Dijk. Mohamed Salah had a late chance to win it for Liverpool but shot straight at Henderson, forcing the match to penalties.
In the shootout, Salah and Alexis Mac Allister missed for Liverpool, while Harvey Elliott's effort was saved. Palace's Borna Sosa hit the crossbar, but Justin Devenny scored the decisive penalty to seal victory for Oliver Glasner's side.
