With the January transfer window approaching, Liverpool are set to ramp up their plans to strengthen the squad, with Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi emerging as a primary target. The Reds, currently fifth in the Premier League after 17 matches, have been hampered by injuries to key players, including a broken leg for striker Alexander Isak and a season-ending injury for centre-back Giovanni Leoni.
Liverpool's defensive options have been further stretched by the unavailability of Joe Gomez and uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate's future as his contract nears expiry. Arne Slot's side are therefore prioritising the signing of a new centre-back, and Guehi fits the bill as a proven Premier League performer who could serve as a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
Guehi's contract with Palace is set to expire at the end of the season, making him available for a reduced fee. Liverpool nearly secured his signature last summer but the deal fell through at the last minute despite the player undergoing a medical. Reports suggest the Reds could now make a £15 million offer in January to secure the England international on a long-term contract.
While a centre-back is a priority, Liverpool are also looking to bolster their attack following Isak's injury. Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo was a top target but appears likely to join Manchester City, prompting the Reds to consider alternatives such as Brentford's Igor Thiago, who has netted 11 league goals this season, or other forwards like Ivan Toney or Dusan Vlahovic. Midfield reinforcements are also being explored, with Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai among those currently holding the fort.
