Liverpool are reportedly escalating their interest in Valencia winger David Otorbi, with scouts attending matches to watch the 19-year-old, whose release clause could soon rise to £50 million. The Reds, under manager Andoni Iraola, are preparing for a busy January transfer window despite recent improvements in results.
Otorbi's release clause set to double
Otorbi signed a two-year contract with Valencia in April, including a £25 million release clause and an option for a three-year extension. Reports in Spain suggest Valencia are close to triggering that option, which would increase the release clause to £50 million, giving the club greater bargaining power over his future.
Liverpool have had scouts in attendance at Valencia games to monitor Harvey Elliott during his loan spell. In doing so, they may have identified Otorbi as another promising prospect, one Valencia appear determined to keep away from English clubs. As part of tracking Elliott, Liverpool have reportedly met with Valencia manager Javier Aguirre and sporting director Braulio Vazquez, with exploratory talks possibly extending to Otorbi's situation.
Ndukwe recall talks scheduled
Ifeanyi Ndukwe's agents are due for talks with Liverpool about ending his loan at Levante early, according to reports. The 18-year-old was loaned out after failing to secure a UK work permit and because Liverpool had used their quota of non-eligible players. He has since impressed in La Liga, establishing himself in Levante's starting XI.
Sky Sports Austria reports Liverpool will discuss the matter with Ndukwe's representatives this weekend. The defender has now accumulated enough points to obtain a work permit and is eligible to play in England. Liverpool included a recall clause in his contract, allowing them to bring him back this winter.
Defensive solidity remains a concern for Liverpool despite recent wins, and another centre-back option would be valuable, especially with loanee Ronald Araujo impressing on the right side of defence. Ndukwe's form in Spain suggests he could soon outgrow Levante, who would be reluctant to lose him.
