Liverpool are preparing a late-summer spending spree, targeting a blockbuster £150m-plus double raid for Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi before Monday's deadline. The club have already had a £110m bid for Isak rejected by Newcastle, who are holding out for £150m, but the Sweden striker has made it clear he wants to join the Reds.
Isak has been training alone since missing Newcastle's pre-season tour and has not featured in their opening two league games. The Magpies are under pressure to sell, but any deal hinges on whether they can sign replacements, with a second £55m bid for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen turned down and a £40m offer for Brentford's Yoane Wissa rejected.
Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is also a target, with Liverpool confident a deal can be struck. Palace chairman Steve Parish is likely to demand around £40m, but Guehi has only a year left on his contract and could leave on a free next summer. Liverpool hope to negotiate a lower price, with no other serious club in the hunt this window, though Manchester City would be keen if he becomes available for nothing.
Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes expressed frustration over Isak's situation, telling ESPN Brazil: 'I haven't had any contact with him. We're really missing our striker, a player who scored more than 20 goals last season.' Sweden coach Jon Dahl Tomasson confirmed Isak's call-up for World Cup qualifiers, saying: 'The situation is not perfect, but he is a player who can decide matches.'
