Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Lille striker Victor Osimhen, despite the Nigerian international being close to a move to Napoli. According to French outlet L'Equipe, Jurgen Klopp is keen on the 21-year-old, who scored 18 goals in all competitions this season.
Osimhen has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Liverpool. The Reds had initially been concerned about losing Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to the Africa Cup of Nations, but the tournament has been postponed to 2022.
Napoli are believed to be in advanced talks for Osimhen, with the player and his representatives meeting Gennaro Gattuso in Naples. The transfer fee could reach up to £72 million, though Liverpool have not yet made a counter-offer.
Liverpool's interest in Osimhen comes despite reports that the club will not make any big signings this summer. L'Equipe suggests Klopp could be using that as a smokescreen to pull off a surprise deal.
