Liverpool have secured the signature of promising young defender Mor Talla Ndiaye, finalising a deal worth £1 million for the 18-year-old centre-back.
Details of the Transfer Deal
The Reds have purchased the Senegal youth international from Amitie FC in his homeland, with the transfer now subject to international clearance. Ndiaye, who celebrated his 18th birthday earlier this month, is set to link up immediately with Rob Page's Under-21 side at the club's Kirkby academy.
Liverpool's director of global talent, Matt Newberry, and his scouting team identified Ndiaye as a key target. The 6ft 2in tall, left-footed defender caught the eye after representing Senegal at the FIFA U17 World Cup in November, where he made four appearances as his nation reached the knockout stages. He has also featured at Under-18 level for his country.
Background and Academy Praise
Interestingly, the second-division Senegalese club Amitie FC is owned by former Chelsea and Newcastle striker Demba Ba. Despite reported interest from several other parties, Liverpool moved decisively to close the deal.
Ndiaye's former academy paid a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, stating he "embodies the values of hard work, discipline and perseverance that we pass on to our young talents." The post added that his journey is "a source of pride for the entire Academy and an inspiration for generations to come," expressing confidence he will represent his country and his upbringing with dignity.
Liverpool's Youthful Defensive Reinforcements
This signing continues a clear trend for Liverpool during this transfer window, which has focused on recruiting young defensive talent. The club has also completed the signing of 19-year-old centre-back Noah Adekoya from Burnley, who will similarly join the U21 setup.
Furthermore, another teenage centre-back, Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Vienna, is reportedly close to finalising a move to Merseyside this month. This influx of young defenders could have a knock-on effect, with Amara Nallo potentially going out on loan to gain vital senior experience and create space within the squad.
The club's strategy is clear: invest in high-potential youth to develop within their own system, with the long-term aim of these players staking a claim for first-team action in the future.
