Liverpool have secured the future of highly-rated winger Josh Abe, with the 15-year-old committing to the club's academy after interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City. The teenager, who has been with Liverpool since the age of four, made his Under-18s debut in September and scored eight goals in 10 U18 Premier League North appearances before a knee injury cut short his season.
Abe became the youngest player to represent Liverpool in the UEFA Youth League when he came off the bench against MSK Zilina in February. He has also trained with the first team and attracted attention from top clubs, including a tour of Real Madrid's facilities earlier this year.
Despite interest from rivals, Liverpool were determined to retain Abe, who has now joined the first-year scholars intake. He is expected to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17 in July next year. Abe is a left-footed right-winger, compared to Callum Hudson-Odoi, and is known for his dribbling ability.
The youngster is expected to return to full fitness ahead of pre-season and could feature in Liverpool's tour of the United States next month, with several senior players absent due to World Cup commitments.
