Liverpool have been advised to pursue Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in January rather than Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, a move that could hand Manchester United an advantage in the race for Semenyo's signature. Both Premier League clubs have been linked with the 24-year-old Ghanaian, who signed a new contract with Bournemouth until 2030, reportedly containing a £65 million release clause.
The suggestion came during a talkSPORT debate, where pundit Steve Minto argued that Liverpool should prioritise Guehi over Semenyo, citing defensive vulnerabilities. Minto noted that Guehi, valued at £80 million, could have been signed for £35 million on deadline day but the deal fell through. He questioned Liverpool's current form, asking: 'Are they even going to finish in the top four?'
Journalist Alex Crook countered that Liverpool have ample funds, pointing to a net spend £218 million less than Arsenal in the summer. However, Minto insisted: 'I would bring in Marc Guehi rather than Antoine Semenyo.' If Liverpool pursue Guehi, it could leave the path clear for Manchester United to sign Semenyo, who has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United invested heavily in attack during the summer, signing Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, and others. Despite this, rumours persist that Ruben Amorim's side may seek further reinforcements in January. Semenyo's release clause makes him an attainable target, though it remains uncertain whether United will make a formal bid.
