Liverpool's pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak could be indirectly influenced by Manchester United's transfer activities. The Reds had an initial approach for the Swedish international rejected, with Newcastle demanding around £150 million for their star forward.
Both Manchester United and Newcastle are vying for RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. The Magpies have submitted a bid of £69.5 million plus add-ons, but face competition from United. A decision from Sesko is expected imminently, potentially as soon as Tuesday night.
If Manchester United secure Sesko, Newcastle are likely to retain Isak, as they would have no need to sell. Conversely, if Newcastle sign Sesko, they might be more open to negotiating Isak's departure. Liverpool, however, have no immediate plans to renew their bid for the 25-year-old.
Newcastle have had a challenging summer transfer window. Their only senior outfield signing is Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest for £55 million, while goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale joined from Southampton. They have missed out on several targets, including Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro.
