Leicester City Women have completed the signing of Switzerland forward Alisha Lehmann from Italian club FC Como, bolstering their squad with experienced Women's Super League talent during the January transfer window.
Leicester's Strategic January Moves
The WSL club has been actively pursuing seasoned players this month, addressing what has often been one of the division's youngest average starting line-ups this season. Lehmann becomes Leicester's fifth January signing and the fourth with previous WSL experience, joining fellow arrivals Rachel Williams, Ashleigh Neville, Sarah Mayling, and Emma Jansson.
The 27-year-old forward has signed a contract with Leicester that runs until 2028, providing stability as the club looks to strengthen its competitive position. Her arrival follows the departure of former captain Janice Cayman, who moved to PSV, creating a need for leadership and proven quality.
Lehmann's Impressive Career Profile
Lehmann brings substantial top-flight experience to Leicester, having previously played for West Ham, Everton, and Aston Villa in England's premier women's division. With 64 international caps for Switzerland, she was part of her national team's squad for Euro 2025, which Switzerland hosted.
"The move just felt right," Lehmann told the Guardian about her transfer to Como from Juventus in August, though she hasn't been a regular starter for the Italian side. At Leicester, she represents the youngest of their January signings, suggesting the club values both her experience and potential longevity.
Beyond the Pitch: A Modern Football Personality
Lehmann occupies a distinctive position in contemporary women's football, boasting a massive social media following that includes 15.9 million Instagram followers and 11.8 million on TikTok. Her off-field profile extends to recent involvement in the UK Baller League, where she co-managed a team alongside television presenter Maya Jama for a season.
Everton's Kelly Gago Transfer Situation
In related WSL transfer news, Everton head coach Brian Sørensen has confirmed that France striker Kelly Gago wants to leave the club, though no suitable offers have yet materialised.
Sørensen stated ahead of Everton's WSL match against Brighton, "She wants to go. She has a release clause in her contract so any club that wants her can just pay that and she is free to go. But from my understanding it's like 10% of that release clause, that's been submitted [offered] so I don't think she's going anywhere."
Reports indicate Everton are seeking approximately £500,000 for the striker, but current offers fall significantly short of that valuation, creating a transfer impasse as the window progresses.
