Leeds United have postponed contract talks with manager Daniel Farke until the end of the season, with his future potentially hinging on Premier League survival. Farke's current deal enters its final 12 months in June, and he had hoped to negotiate an extension before now.
Club bosses have decided to wait and see whether Farke can keep Leeds in the top flight before committing to a new contract. Leeds sit six points above the relegation zone with nine games remaining, but their form has been poor, with just two wins in their last 13 league matches.
That run includes Tuesday's dismal home defeat to Sunderland, a game that saw Leeds miss a golden chance to secure their Premier League status. After the match, chairman Paraag Marathe and major investor Pete Lowy were seen in deep conversation at the Dakota Hotel.
Lowy made clear that Farke's contract situation will not be addressed until the season's outcome is known. 'We have not yet stayed in the Premier League. We are not yet secured, and so we're not talking about it,' Lowy said. 'To talk about Daniel's contract now is just not on the table.'
Farke took charge of Leeds in 2023 on a deal running until 2027. He led the club to promotion in his second season, winning the Championship title on goal difference with 100 points.
