Laporta Set for Another Term as Barcelona President After Election Victory
Joan Laporta is poised to be officially reelected as the president of FC Barcelona for another five-year term, following a decisive leadership vote among members of the prestigious Spanish football club on Sunday. His sole opponent, Víctor Font, conceded the election late on Sunday evening, acknowledging Laporta's clear triumph in the contest.
Overwhelming Support in Member Voting
With approximately 50% of the ballots counted, Laporta had secured nearly 70% of the votes, prompting Font to extend congratulations for what he termed an "unquestionable victory." The club reported that more than 48,000 of Barcelona's 114,000 eligible members participated in the election, casting their votes at Camp Nou Stadium and four additional polling stations located across Catalonia in northeastern Spain, as well as in Andorra.
Laporta's Legacy and Return to Leadership
Laporta previously served as Barcelona's president from 2003 to 2010, a period widely regarded as a golden era for the club under the management of coach Pep Guardiola and featuring the rise of a young Lionel Messi. He regained the presidency in 2021 and has now solidified his position for another term, underscoring his enduring influence within the organization.
The election results highlight strong member support for Laporta's leadership, as he continues to steer one of the world's most iconic football clubs through its ongoing challenges and ambitions.
