KSI's Dagenham & Redbridge Reportedly Targeting Kevin Nolan as New Manager
Dagenham & Redbridge, the football club owned by prominent YouTuber KSI, are reportedly in contention to appoint Kevin Nolan as their new manager. This development comes as the National League South side seeks fresh leadership following a period of transition under their new celebrity owner.
Nolan's Recent Departure from Northampton Town
Kevin Nolan, aged 43, has been without managerial employment since his dismissal from Northampton Town last month. His departure came after a challenging sequence of seven consecutive matches without a victory, which left the Cobblers languishing in 23rd position in League One.
The former midfielder had initially joined Northampton in December 2024 and successfully guided the team to safety during the previous season. However, the current campaign proved considerably more difficult, culminating in the club's confirmed relegation earlier this week. Notably, Northampton have suffered defeats in all seven fixtures since Nolan's exit.
Dagenham's Elevated Profile Under KSI's Ownership
According to journalist Pete O'Rourke, Nolan is being considered for a managerial return at Dagenham & Redbridge, who compete in the sixth tier of English football. The club's visibility has increased substantially since KSI's unexpected takeover last month, although this heightened attention has not yet translated into improved on-field results.
Currently positioned 13th in the National League South table with just one match remaining this season, Dagenham have experienced mixed fortunes since the YouTuber's arrival. The club's caretaker manager is Andy Carroll, Nolan's former teammate at both Newcastle United and West Ham United, who assumed temporary control after KSI dismissed previous boss Lee Bradbury.
Andy Carroll's Interim Role and Future Ambitions
Carroll, 37, remains officially registered as a player after joining the East London club last summer. During his six-game tenure as caretaker manager, he has accumulated eight points. Speaking recently about his temporary position, Carroll expressed enthusiasm for the managerial challenge while emphasizing his continued desire to play.
'Management was never something I actively pursued,' Carroll told The Sun. 'But when the opportunity presented itself, I recognized I could handle the responsibility. The experience has been genuinely exciting, and I'm pleased with our progress, though it was never part of my long-term planning.'
He added: 'My primary focus remains playing football. I'm under contract here as a player, and that's what I want to do daily. If that means combining playing with managerial duties temporarily, I'll accept that. However, committing to a permanent managerial role that would prevent me from playing isn't something I'm prepared to consider at this stage.'
Kevin Nolan's Managerial Background and Philosophy
Kevin Nolan, who achieved cult status during his playing career with Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United, and West Ham United, began his managerial journey with Leyton Orient in 2016. He subsequently managed Notts County from January 2017 to August 2018, guiding the Magpies to the League Two play-offs during his only complete season in charge.
Nolan served as first-team coach at West Ham United during David Moyes' second tenure at the club before a brief stint with England's Under-20s squad prior to his appointment at Northampton. Reflecting on his return to management last season after helping Northampton avoid relegation, Nolan shared his perspective with Daily Mail Sport's Inside The EFL column.
'It has been tremendously rewarding to be a number one again,' Nolan stated. 'I thrive on making critical decisions and embracing the pressure that comes with leadership. Management was always something I wanted to return to. My time working under David Moyes at West Ham was invaluable, and I learned extensively from him. Being back in the hot seat has been thoroughly enjoyable—we've experienced some memorable moments, and securing our survival was absolutely crucial.'
KSI's Ambitious Vision for Dagenham & Redbridge
Meanwhile, KSI generated significant attention with his acquisition of a stake in Dagenham & Redbridge earlier this month. Articulating his ambitious plans for the club, the YouTuber expressed both excitement and determination.
'The entire situation feels surreal, almost otherworldly,' KSI remarked. 'The concept genuinely excites me. Years ago, I witnessed the excitement, happiness, and pure joy surrounding football clubs. I want to restore that atmosphere and then exceed it. I envision our stadium pulsating with energy, creating an event-like experience every time supporters visit.'
He continued: 'I fully acknowledge that owning a football club differs dramatically from playing a video game. However, my Race to Division One YouTube series taught me about perseverance and achievement through challenging journeys. With Dagenham & Redbridge, I aim to accomplish the seemingly impossible: taking this club to the Premier League. This will undoubtedly require time, but our immediate realistic objective is promotion from our current league into the National League. We need to strengthen the squad with impactful additions that elevate our performance, and I'm committed to fostering community engagement around the club.'
