Two Arrested for Spiking and Assaulting Tourist in Majorca

Police have arrested two men suspected of sexually assaulting a foreign tourist in Majorca after allegedly spiking her drinks in a bar. The young tourist, travelling alone, claimed she was targeted by the two men on a night out on Friday, May 1.

Incident Details

The holidaymaker said she started feeling unwell after leaving her drink unattended while visiting the toilet. The men she had met that night reportedly offered to drive her back to her hotel, but instead allegedly took her to a waste ground and sexually assaulted her on the back seat of the car.

Locals called the police after she managed to escape from the vehicle and begged for help. The incident occurred in Manacor, the second largest town in Majorca, roughly halfway between Palma and the island's east coast.

Arrests and Legal Proceedings

Two suspects, who have not been named, were tracked down and arrested by local police. They were remanded to a local jail after appearing before a judge at the start of the week.

A spokesperson for the National Police in Majorca said: 'Officers in Manacor have arrested two men as the suspected authors of a crime of sexual assault against a woman.'

Sequence of Events

Police detailed that the alleged victim entered a bar on May 1 and sat alone on the terrace. A man approached her and began a conversation, and his friend later joined them. The three had drinks together, and at one point, the woman went to the toilet, leaving her drink unattended.

The woman stated in her police report that she began to feel symptoms inconsistent with normal alcohol consumption. Both men insisted she finish her drink before they left the table. When she wanted to call a taxi, the men offered to accompany her and drive her back in their car.

Her memory from that point onwards came back only in flashes. She recalled the men stopping on 'waste ground in a dark area with no buildings around.' The spokesperson added: 'The men allegedly took advantage of the situation to sexually assault her on the back seat of the vehicle.'

She managed to escape the car, cross a road, and ask for help at the first house she found. The occupants immediately called police, who accompanied her to hospital for a medical examination and took her statement.

Police tracked the suspects after the victim provided information about the two men. When one individual was intercepted, he had a packet of medicines with him. Local reports describe the woman as a foreign 'young tourist,' but her nationality has not been revealed, and it is unclear if she remains in Majorca.
