Substitute Charalampos Kostoulas scored a stunning bicycle kick in added time as Brighton salvaged a 1-1 Premier League draw against Bournemouth at the Amex Stadium. The 18-year-old Greece international levelled a minute into stoppage time with an acrobatic finish from Jan Paul van Hecke's knock-down.
Bournemouth had led since Marcus Tavernier's hotly-disputed 32nd-minute penalty, awarded after VAR overturned referee Paul Tierney's initial yellow card for diving. Tavernier confidently fired the spot-kick into the bottom left corner, sparking furious reactions from home fans, who booed Tierney at half-time.
The visitors, playing in the top flight for the first time since selling top scorer Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City, pushed for a second goal. Evanilson hit the post and nodded wide as Bournemouth sought a crucial win. Brighton, who brought on Carlos Baleba, Yankuba Minteh and Georginio Rutter for the final 24 minutes, pressed for an equaliser.
With eight minutes of added time signalled, Kostoulas, on for Danny Welbeck in the 77th minute, controlled Olivier Boscagli's cross with his chest before unleashing a bicycle kick into the left corner. The draw leaves Bournemouth three points below 12th-placed Brighton.
