England captain Harry Kane is taking part in a special colour broadcast of the 1966 World Cup final, aiming to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer's Society. The match, in which England beat West Germany 4-2 at Wembley, will be shown in colour on Channel 4 on 6 June.
Hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst will also contribute, paying tribute to former teammates who developed dementia. Comedian David Baddiel, an Alzheimer's Society ambassador, will introduce the programme, which includes contributions from current and former England stars ahead of this summer's World Cup.
The broadcast, in partnership with SunLife and MediaLab, seeks to highlight the impact of dementia on footballers. Alzheimer's Society CEO Michelle Dyson expressed gratitude, noting that many players and fans from 1966 have been affected by the condition.
Executive Producer Neil Canetty-Clarke said the 1966 final was watched by 32 million people in black and white; he hopes millions more will watch the colour version to support the charity. The programme airs at 4.45pm on 6 June.
