John Terry Blasts 'Disgusting' UK Government Treatment of Roman Abramovich

Chelsea legend John Terry has launched a scathing attack on the UK government over its treatment of former Blues owner Roman Abramovich. The Russian billionaire was forced to sell the club in 2022 after being sanctioned by Boris Johnson's Conservative government following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Terry said: 'I think he's one of the nicest people you could ever meet in your life. I think it's disgusting what happened to him, I really do. I think as a UK government we should be embarrassed by our actions towards him.'

Terry highlighted Abramovich's charitable efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, including opening Stamford Bridge to NHS nurses and providing homes. He also praised the Russian for transforming Chelsea's training facilities and investing in the club's success.

The sanctions against Abramovich remain in place under Sir Keir Starmer's Labour government, with the £2.5billion from the club's sale still frozen in a UK bank account. Abramovich has said he would like to attend a Chelsea match to say a proper goodbye but has no interest in any professional role at the club.
