Gianluigi Donnarumma has made his feelings clear about Manchester City's Champions League hopes after their heavy defeat to Real Madrid. The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper sent a private message to former City star Joe Hart, insisting the tie is far from over.
Speaking on TNT Sport, Hart revealed: 'He said: “Let’s go, it’s not over, let’s go”. It gave me chills, I love that guy!' The interaction came after Real Madrid raced into a 3-0 lead at half-time in the first leg at the Bernabeu.
Fede Valverde scored a brilliant hat-trick in just 22 minutes, capitalising on a depleted Real Madrid side missing Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo. Donnarumma denied Vinicius Junior from the penalty spot in the second half to prevent further damage.
City had started positively, with Antoine Semenyo and Jeremy Doku testing Thibaut Courtois, but were caught out by a long ball from the Real Madrid goalkeeper. Valverde controlled superbly and finished from a narrow angle, then added a second after a deflection, before completing his hat-trick with a volley before the interval.
The defeat capped a miserable 48 hours for English clubs in Madrid, following Tottenham's 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid. City now face a daunting challenge in the second leg at the Etihad Stadium next week.
