Jackson brace ends Man City's perfect Premier League start

Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park, with Nicolas Jackson scoring twice to hand the Premier League leaders their first defeat of the season. Erling Haaland netted his ninth league goal of the campaign, but it was not enough to prevent City from losing at Villa Park for a fourth consecutive season.

Villa's turnaround continues

Unai Emery's side secured their fourth straight win across all competitions and their first home league victory of the season, following a slow start to the campaign. City, under Enzo Maresca, saw their 100 per cent league start come to an end.

The opening goal came in the sixth minute when Marc Guehi's mistake allowed Jackson to finish into the top of the net. Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki made several vital saves, while Iliman Ndiaye hit the post as Villa held their lead into the break.

Haaland equalises but Jackson strikes again

Haaland levelled seven minutes after the interval, heading in Ndiaye's cross. However, Jackson scored his second of the afternoon and fourth of the season on the hour mark, with substitute Ibrahim Mbaye providing the assist, to secure the win.

City were booed by the away crowd before kick-off, following their guilty verdict for serious breaches of the competition's financial regulations last month. They also conceded a corner after Gianluigi Donnarumma took too long with a goal-kick, which put them on the back foot early.

City's late pressure fails to pay off

City pushed for an equaliser, with Haaland having a header blocked by Ian Maatsen. Suzuki also tipped a ferocious strike from Josko Gvardiol onto the bar, a save that proved decisive as Villa held on for the points.
