Rasmus Hojlund has urged Manchester United supporters to 'move on' following criticism of his social media post after Thursday's 3-3 draw with Porto in the Europa League. The Danish striker scored on his return from injury but faced backlash for a lighthearted Instagram caption.
Hojlund posted a picture of himself celebrating his goal with the caption: 'Luckily I had 6 weeks to practice my celebration. A win would've made it perfect.' Some fans deemed the post inappropriate given United's poor performance, which saw them squander a two-goal lead before Harry Maguire's stoppage-time equaliser.
Responding on his Instagram story, Hojlund wrote: 'I've seen some anger about my post of yesterday. I never intended that... I was only happy to be back out there on the scoresheet again after a tough few weeks where I couldn't play and score. Obviously we go for the win and I will give everything to make you guys happy, sorry yesterday's post was not the case. Let's move on, getting ready to give everything again on Sunday.'
The draw in Porto has increased pressure on manager Erik ten Hag, whose side have won just two of their last seven matches in all competitions. United's next fixture is a daunting trip to Aston Villa on Sunday, following a 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham in their last Premier League outing.
Ten Hag, however, remains defiant. 'We will get there. Don't judge us in this moment, judge us at the end of the season. We are in the process, we will improve,' he said. 'We have two seasons now where we achieve finals, (so) just wait. We have to develop and progress this team.'
