Hincapie digs at Van Dijk with Arsenal badge post

Piero Hincapie has aimed a pointed social media post at Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk after Arsenal's 1-0 win at Anfield on Sunday. The defender posted three pictures from the match on Instagram with the caption: 'I don't forget…' The final image was a close-up of the gold Premier League badge on Arsenal's sleeve, a logo worn only by the defending champions.

Badge response to Van Dijk

The post appeared to be a response to Van Dijk doing the same in January after a goalless draw between Arsenal and Liverpool at the Emirates. At that time, Liverpool were defending champions, and the centre-back was thought to be reminding the north London club of that status. Hincapie has now returned the gesture, pointing out who currently holds the title.

Arsenal top the table

Kai Havertz scored the only goal of an entertaining match as Mikel Arteta's side climbed to the top of the Premier League table, while Liverpool remained fifth. Arsenal moved three points clear of Manchester City thanks to an eighth win in nine league games. The Gunners have conceded just five goals in nine Premier League outings, three of which came in their one defeat to Brighton.

Defensive strength praised

Liverpool were competitive but failed to register a single shot on target. Arteta credited his entire team for their defensive work. 'I didn't know about that statistic but that's incredible,' he said of goalkeeper David Raya not having to make one save. 'It didn't feel like this to be fair on the pitch because there were very little margins sometimes when they had the opportunity to shoot and it's a team that shoots a lot. You have to be so good at blocking shots and preventing those spaces for them to get into there. Again, it's a commitment of every single player in every action consistently to deliver those kind of stats and to do it against this team, it's something remarkable I would say.'
