Premier League cult hero's daughter makes senior Iceland debut against England

Ida Marin Hermannsdottir, the daughter of former Premier League defender Hermann Hreidarsson, has earned her first senior caps for Iceland. The 23-year-old midfielder made her debut against Spain last week before playing 63 minutes in Iceland's 2-0 defeat to England women at Nottingham's City Ground, where her father once played for Nottingham Forest.

Hermann Hreidarsson, a fan favourite at Portsmouth, Charlton and Ipswich, watched from the stands as his daughter faced the European champions. Ida Marin began her career at Icelandic club Fylkir before joining Valur and, in 2024, FH (Fimleikafelag Hafnarfjordur), where her performances earned her a call-up to the national team.

Iceland's women have been drawn in a tough qualifying group alongside England and Spain, with only the group winners securing automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. Ida Marin is one of Hermann's four children; he also has a daughter, Thelma Loa, from his first marriage, and two sons with his fiancée.
