Harry Kane will join up with the England squad despite sustaining an ankle problem in Bayern Munich’s 5-2 win at Darmstadt on Saturday, the Bundesliga club have announced.
The England captain was substituted late on after scoring before colliding with a goalpost. Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel revealed Kane had twisted his ankle, saying: “He’s been applying ice to it since. We’ll have to wait and see and hope that it’s nothing major.”
An update on Bayern’s website confirmed the injury to his left ankle but said Kane would join England, where he will be “treated by the team doctors there, in close consultation with the FC Bayern medical department.”
The 30-year-old striker is expected to report for international duty at St George’s Park on Tuesday. England play friendlies at Wembley against Brazil on 23 March and Belgium on 26 March.
Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund was quoted by Bild as saying Kane “will be looked at in England. He has trusted doctors there. Harry won’t take any risks.”
Kane, England’s all-time leading scorer with 62 goals, broke the record for most goals in a debut Bundesliga season, taking his tally to 31 with Saturday’s strike. Bayern also confirmed full-back Raphaël Guerreiro, injured in the same match, will miss international duty with Portugal.
