Danny Rose Questions Mourinho's Control at Tottenham, Suggests Levy Holds Power

Danny Rose has cast doubt on José Mourinho's authority at Tottenham Hotspur, suggesting chairman Daniel Levy remains the dominant figure at the club. Speaking after Spurs' 3-1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, Rose responded to a question about Mourinho's control by asking: 'Who said he's in control of the club?'

The left-back, whose contract expires in June 2021, has had a strained relationship with Levy. Rose revealed last month that Levy told him he would not receive a new deal, leading the 29-year-old to decide to run down his contract and leave as a free agent. Rose stated he has not spoken to Mourinho about his future, saying: 'I’ve never had a conversation with him and I don’t see why I need to.'

Despite his personal situation, Rose praised Mourinho's appointment, calling it 'credit to the club' and noting the manager's winning pedigree. However, he emphasised that every player is starting from scratch under the new regime. 'We’re all starting from the same starting point or, at least, I hope we are,' Rose said.

Mourinho is reportedly keen to bring sporting director Luis Campos from Lille to oversee recruitment, but any January signings may require offsetting sales. Players like Rose and Christian Eriksen, who also intends to see out his contract, could complicate such moves. Spurs sit seventh in the Premier League, six points off fourth place, ahead of away matches against Wolves and Chelsea.
