Erling Haaland has expressed full confidence in Manchester City as the club awaits the verdict on the 115 Premier League charges related to alleged financial breaches. The striker told Time Magazine he believes the club’s hierarchy after discussing the matter with them.
“I spoke with the bosses, and in the end, I believe them,” Haaland said. “It’s such a tricky situation for me to even sit there and speak about, because I wasn’t really involved in it. So I think the club knows what they’re doing. They will sort it out.”
The charges, first brought in February 2023, concern alleged financial rule breaches between 2009 and 2018. A trial took place last December, but a verdict remains pending, with further delays pushing any announcement potentially into the autumn. Reports suggest a decision could come during the October international break.
Premier League chief executive Richard Masters declined to comment on the case, citing confidentiality. “You can ask, but our rules are very clear,” he said. “It's a confidential process so I really can't give any information out on timing or anything like that.”
Speculation has mounted over potential penalties if City are found guilty, including a significant points deduction or even relegation, though the club is expected to appeal any adverse ruling. Meanwhile, City have continued to invest heavily in the squad, spending around £150 million on new players this summer.
