Bruno Guimaraes admitted he wants to give Mikel Arteta a selection headache after coming off the bench to put Arsenal’s title defence back on track. Guimaraes was on target as Mikel Arteta’s side scored two goals in eight second-half minutes to come from behind against Leeds United.
James Justin fired Daniel Farke’s side ahead before Riccardo Calafiori drew the reigning Premier League champions level just after the hour mark. Guimaraes completed the comeback with an assured finish from the edge of the penalty area less than 10 minutes after coming off the bench.
Return to winning ways
The victory ensured the Gunners returned to winning ways after a 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion before the international break. And the Brazil international, who moved to the Emirates Stadium from Newcastle United during the summer, admitted he is keen to give his manager a decision to make when it comes to team selection.
“I feel unbelievable,” he told TNT Sports. “I feel in the last game against Brighton we were not the level that... and today the mentality was bouncing back.
“To be honest, to be fair, this is my first official game at home, it's been unbelievable: score an important goal, three important points and yeah, great finish, I'm very happy.”
Headache for the manager
“For me it's important when I'm on the pitch to give my best - give a little bit of a headache for the manager.
“I'm just very glad to score my first goal here at the Emirates, an important goal. We want to be champions again so three points is always welcome.”
Before he added: “Well, I think I've been proving [myself] in the Premier League for the last five years. So but of course it's a new challenge for me, it's always important to play.
“And like I said, for me, the most important thing for Bruno is going onto the pitch and playing my best football, and I'm very happy about today.
“The Premier League is very tight. I think Leeds have a great team. It was a tough game, we're glad we got the three points but like I said, very tight - so very welcome when we get the three points.”
Arteta demands more
Speaking after the game, Gunners boss Arteta said: “This is the level for Arsenal, every week, every game, every minute, every action that you have to be at.
“Against Brighton he wasn’t at that level, and today he was much better, and he can still be much better, and that’s what we have to demand.
“I demand it from myself, and I’m going to demand the same with my players because if we do that we will raise the standards and we’ll be a better team.
“He’s still not in the best condition because he did not have a pre-season. But he’s done it twice, (scoring from the bench) against Sunderland and now against Leeds, and that’s the quality needed at this level to continue to win.”
