Marc Guehi Confident Manchester City Can Still Win Premier League Title

Manchester City defender Marc Guehi has firmly stated that his team is not giving up on their bid for silverware this season, despite a challenging run of form. City travel to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday in a crucial Premier League clash that could define their title aspirations.

City's Title Hopes Hang in the Balance

The reigning champions head to Merseyside needing a victory to arrest a poor run of results and maintain any realistic hope of overhauling league leaders Arsenal. City have dropped points in five of their last six Premier League games, leaving them with significant ground to make up in the title race.

Guehi, who joined City from Crystal Palace in a £20 million deal during the January transfer window, remains optimistic about their chances. The England international came remarkably close to joining Liverpool last summer, only for the move to collapse on deadline day. Now, his loyalties are firmly with the City camp.

Guehi's Positive Mindset Ahead of Anfield Test

The 25-year-old centre-back emphasised the team's forward-looking mentality. "The goal is always to win and always to get better," Guehi said. "There's still a long season ahead – lots of points and games to fight for. The mindset is to look forward and to try and win."

He added: "We just need to keep going. We're definitely going in the right direction. Winning games is massive and big in any competition so as long as we keep going like that, I don't see why we can't achieve our goals this season."

Daunting Anfield Record for City

City face a formidable challenge at Anfield, where they have a notoriously poor record. In their last 22 league visits to Liverpool's home ground, City have managed just a single victory, which came behind closed doors in February 2021 during the pandemic.

Guehi acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead but expressed confidence in his team's abilities. "It's not an easy place to go to, but as long as we show that resilience and team spirit together – knowing that we have the qualities to compete against any other team – we thoroughly believe in ourselves," he stated.

"It's about doing our job. Making sure we turn up in the right spirits, focus our mentality and go out there and try to get the win."

Semenyo Eager for Merseyside Challenge

Guehi's fellow new recruit Antoine Semenyo is relishing the prospect of the high-stakes encounter. The Ghana international arrived at City in a £62.5 million deal from Bournemouth last month and has made an impressive start to his City career, scoring four times in his first six appearances.

"As an outsider before joining here, it was always entertaining watching City and Liverpool," Semenyo said. "To be part of it, I'm so grateful, but it's going to be a challenge. We're prepared for it and we'll be fired up for it on the day. I'm looking forward to the game."

The Sunday clash represents a pivotal moment in City's season, with victory essential to keep their title defence alive. Both new signings appear ready to embrace the challenge at one of football's most intimidating venues.
