Jack Grealish's future at Manchester City remains uncertain after Enzo Maresca hinted the winger could still have a role at the club, despite being frozen out by former manager Pep Guardiola. The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Everton, where he scored two goals and provided six assists before a stress fracture in his foot cut his campaign short.
Maresca, who replaced Guardiola at the end of last season, said Grealish was ‘a Man City player’ and emphasised his duty to coach the squad’s existing players. The Italian, who previously worked with Grealish as Guardiola's assistant, described the winger as having ‘a big heart’ and a ‘very good guy’, but stopped short of confirming his long-term plans for the £100m signing.
Grealish returned to City's books after his loan spell, though he remained at Everton's training ground while recovering from his injury. Everton are reportedly keen to bring Grealish back once he is fully fit. Guardiola had also hinted last October that Grealish could still have a future at the Etihad, stating that ‘many things are still going to happen’ regarding the player's return.
Grealish joined City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a British record fee but fell out of favour under Guardiola, leading to his temporary move to Goodison Park. With Maresca now at the helm, the midfielder's future hangs in the balance as the new era begins at the Premier League champions.
