Oliver Glasner accused Crystal Palace's hierarchy of 'abandoning' his side after a 2-1 defeat at Sunderland extended the club's winless run to 10 games in all competitions. The Austrian, who announced he would leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season on Friday, criticised the decision to sell captain Marc Guéhi to Manchester City just one day before the match.
Speaking after the loss, Glasner said he learned of Guehi's departure at 10:30am on the morning of the game, leaving him unable to prepare set pieces and forcing a last-minute change to the lineup. He described the sale as having his 'heart torn out twice in a season', referencing Eberechi Eze's exit in August.
Glasner did not make a single substitution during the match, explaining that the bench consisted solely of inexperienced youngsters. 'I made no substitutions because it would have been unfair. I see them in training every day,' he said. 'We've been playing with 12 to 13 players for weeks now.'
He added that the squad desperately needs reinforcement and warned that the club's current approach could lead to relegation. 'Crystal Palace, not Oliver Glasner will get the bill. If you’re fine with that continue,' he said. However, he stated his belief that the team will avoid the drop and that he remains committed to the players and fans.
