Gerwyn Price has surged to second in the world rankings after claiming the World Grand Prix title with a 5-2 victory over Dutch debutant Dirk van Duijvenbode in Coventry. The 35-year-old Welshman added the Grand Prix crown to his recent World Series win and two Grand Slam titles, marking his fourth tournament victory in as many weeks.
Price, who also secured consecutive Players Championship wins in Germany and a World Series triumph over Rob Cross in Austria, settled the match with a 102 checkout. Van Duijvenbode, a 28-year-old aubergine farm office worker ranked 73rd, fought back with a 135 finish but could not overcome Price's dominance.
Reflecting on his defeat, Van Duijvenbode said: 'Set two cost me the match. This week, I finally played well and made the final but I didn't play well in the final. Even though I'm disappointed, we all have to still buy aubergines.'
Price now targets further success in the Premier League and plans to invest his winnings into a farm project, aiming to expand his interests beyond darts.
