Gerwyn Price Withdraws from World Cup of Darts 2026
Gerwyn Price Out of World Cup of Darts 2026

Former World Cup winner Gerwyn Price has officially withdrawn from the 2026 World Cup of Darts, marking the second time in three years he has opted out of the pairs competition. Price missed the 2024 event as well, with Jim Williams stepping in then. This time, Nick Kenny will replace him for Wales.

Reason for Withdrawal

Speaking after his defeat to Jonny Clayton in the Premier League last week, Price mentioned he wasn't "in a great place health wise." However, he later clarified on Instagram: "Just to clarify I have NOT withdrawn from the World Cup because of health reasons." The exact reason remains undisclosed.

Replacement and Impact

Nick Kenny, the next highest-ranked Welshman on the PDC Order of Merit, will make his tournament debut alongside Jonny Clayton. Price's absence has cost Wales their top-four seeding, forcing them to start in the group phase instead of the second round.

Price's Record

Price has enjoyed immense success at the World Cup, winning the title twice with Clayton in 2020 and 2023. He also reached the final on three other occasions (2017, 2022, 2025).

2026 Tournament Details

This year's tournament runs from June 11 to June 14 at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt, Germany. The prize fund is a record £500,000. Defending champions Northern Ireland (Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney) are seeded, along with England (Luke Littler and Luke Humphries), the Netherlands (Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen), and Scotland (Gary Anderson and Cameron Menzies).

Despite the high stakes, Price has prioritised his personal well-being over further glory.
