Gary Neville has revealed why he hated rooming with David Beckham during their early days at Manchester United, citing two major problems that made them incompatible as roommates.
Sleep Schedules Clashed
Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville explained that their sleeping patterns were completely opposite. He said: 'I used to go to bed at 9pm and wake up at 5am, he would stay up until 11pm and want to wake up at 8am, so essentially he was keeping me up from 9 until 11 and then I was getting him up at 5 in the morning, so it just wasn't working at all.'
Cleanliness and Personality Differences
Neville also admitted that Beckham's need for perfectionism clashed with his own messy nature. 'He is the cleanest person. He gets into his room, he lights candles, he puts pictures up – everything has to be absolutely perfect. I just throw everything everywhere, so it just did not work at all,' Neville added. He described himself as always talking and arguing, while Beckham preferred peace and quiet, listening to music and being chilled.
Despite their rooming struggles, the pair remained close friends, winning six Premier League titles together, including the historic Treble in 1999. Neville later served as Beckham's best man at his wedding to Victoria Beckham.
