Former Newcastle United forward Garang Kuol made a return to UK television screens last night, coming off the bench for Jablonec against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Europa Conference League and showing the pace that first attracted the Magpies.
Kuol, now 22, joined Newcastle in 2022 for £300,000 during Dan Ashworth's time as sporting director, but left for Sparta Prague last summer for an undisclosed fee. He was loaned to Jablonec for the 2026/27 season after making 23 appearances for Sparta and scoring in the Conference League against Aberdeen last season.
Loan Moves and Limited Game Time
After appearing for Newcastle on their 2024 tour of Australia, including an exhibition game against Spurs in Melbourne, Kuol did not make a competitive appearance for the club. He was subsequently sent to Heart of Midlothian and then Volendam in Holland, where he made only a handful of appearances.
Last night, Kuol was spotted by UK TV viewers as he came off the bench for his loan club against Brighton, demonstrating the speed and acceleration that had attracted Newcastle to him initially.
Life After Newcastle
Interviewed by TNT Sports' Matt Smith, Kuol was asked about life after Newcastle and said: "It is different, I'd say, a different language. But generally speaking, football is football, and it speaks for itself. I'm just working hard, trying to develop every day and keep growing every day."
Jablonec, who eliminated Glasgow Rangers on penalties in the competition's play-offs, currently occupy a play-off place in the Conference League and face Riga in their next game.
Howe's Initial Praise
On signing Kuol in 2022, then Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said: "He's very sharp, agile, quick, a good finisher. He's got a lot of very positive ingredients. That is going to be nurtured and developed in the next couple of years to get him at the right level for the Premier League. I met him for the first time in person yesterday. That was a very good conversation. He is a very confident, independent lad who has got high motivation."
The move did not work out for either party, and Kuol continues to rebuild his career after his release from the Magpies last year.
