Tyson Fury is set to end yet another retirement this weekend, but his brother Tommy has admitted that his family would rather he stay retired. The 'Gypsy King' announced his retirement last year after back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, only to reverse his decision months later. He will face Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night as part of a planned busy year in the ring.
Fury's return has not been without drama after his father John revealed that he is no longer on talking terms with his son. The former two-time heavyweight champion left John out of his team before his second defeat to Usyk in December 2024. John has consistently called for his son to retire, and now Tommy has added his voice to the chorus.
Tommy Fury told Bloody Elbow: "I think if you asked any one of his family do we want to see him keep boxing the answer would have been an all around 'no'. That's all the way around the board because we care about his health." He added that while fans enjoy Tyson's entertainment, the family prioritises his wellbeing.
Despite his concerns, Tommy backed his brother to win, predicting a late stoppage. "I think he probably could have picked an easier fight to come back against," he said of the dangerous puncher Makhmudov. "If he boxes like I know he can, Makhmudov is getting stopped late on." Tommy himself is preparing for a fight against Eddie Hall in June.
