Thomas Frank faced a chorus of 'boring, boring Tottenham' from the away fans during his return to Brentford, as his new side laboured to a goalless draw. The Tottenham head coach, who was given a warm reception by the Brentford supporters before kick-off, saw his team fail to register a shot on target in a drab Premier League encounter.
Spurs' attacking impotence led to frustration boiling over in the 85th minute, with supporters adapting a chant usually reserved for Arsenal. Frank, however, remained defiant when asked about the fans' reaction, saying: 'That question is very difficult for me to answer, going off a few boos after the game. I’m very aware that we are not where I want us to be.'
The match was Frank's first return to the Gtech Community Stadium since leaving last summer, and he was given a hero's welcome by the home fans. But his Tottenham side offered little in attack, with Richarlison's weak cross to no one late on drawing howls of frustration from the travelling support.
Brentford were the more proactive team, particularly after the interval, and had a strong shout for a red card when Cristian Romero appeared to foul Igor Thiago as the last man. Manager Keith Andrews felt it should have been a sending-off, but the officials disagreed.
Frank admitted his squad is stretched, with eight players unavailable for various reasons, including Brennan Johnson, who was left out as he closes in on a £35m move to Crystal Palace. The head coach said: 'I’m not really reading anything on social media or articles. I watch the team. I’m very aware that we are not where I want us to be.'
