France are through to the World Cup 2026 semi-finals after a 2-0 victory over Morocco at the Boston Stadium on Thursday night. Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele scored second-half goals to secure the win for Les Bleus.
First Half: Mbappe Penalty Miss
The first quarter-final of the tournament was goalless at half-time after Kylian Mbappe had a weak penalty saved by Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. Controversy arose over the delay before Mbappe took the spot kick, which seemed to affect his concentration.
Second Half: Mbappe and Dembele Strike
Mbappe redeemed himself on the hour mark with a superb curling effort to break the deadlock, despite Morocco players protesting an apparent handball in the build-up. Six minutes later, Ousmane Dembele doubled France's lead, using a decoy run from Mbappe to pick out the bottom corner for his fifth goal of the tournament.
France will now face either Spain or Belgium in the semi-finals.
