Former NFL Star Mark Sanchez Charged After Stabbing Incident

Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has been charged with three misdemeanours following a stabbing incident in Indianapolis. The 38-year-old was arrested in his hospital bed after being treated for critical stab wounds sustained during an altercation with a food delivery truck driver early on Saturday morning.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office announced on Sunday that Sanchez faces charges of battery with injury, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a vehicle. An initial hearing has been scheduled for 8:30am ET, with bond set at $300. Prosecutor Ryan Mears stated: 'This incident should never have happened. What began as a disagreement between a 38-year-old former professional athlete and a 69-year-old man should not have escalated into violence or left anyone seriously injured.'

According to an affidavit obtained by ESPN, Sanchez allegedly confronted the truck driver at a loading dock in downtown Indianapolis, telling him he was barred from standing there on the orders of a hotel manager. The driver, who reported smelling alcohol on Sanchez's breath, claimed he sprayed the former quarterback with pepper spray out of fear. Sanchez reportedly continued advancing, leading the driver to believe he was in a 'life-or-death situation' and to stab him 'two or three times' with a knife.

Sanchez sustained multiple stab wounds to his right torso, while the driver suffered a laceration on his left cheek. Both were taken to separate hospitals for treatment. Sanchez told police he could not remember the incident, only 'grabbing for a window.' The driver stated he thought Sanchez was 'trying to kill me' and was thrown against a dumpster during the confrontation.

Fox Sports confirmed Sanchez is recovering in stable condition and will not perform his broadcasting duties for the Colts-Raiders game. He has been replaced by former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn. Fox Sports presenter Charissa Thompson addressed the incident on air, saying: 'Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, his family, and all of those involved.'
