Rob and Dave Nicholson, owners of Cannon Hall Farm, have told fans to expect an “emotional” episode in the upcoming series of Channel 5's The Yorkshire Vet. The Springtime on the Farm stars lost their shire horse stallion Herkules last year after he suffered a sudden colic, which led to a blockage that damaged his intestines.
Emergency surgery fails to save Herkules
Despite emergency surgery, Herkules tragically died. Rob announced the news to fans on Facebook shortly after, saying: “It’s really difficult to take in, heartbreaking is an easy word to say but we just can’t believe it. He had everything going for him. I never thought we’d have an animal like him. Losing him has floored us but the sympathy and good wishes that have flowed in our direction have helped ease the pain a little.”
Herkules was just three years old at the time of his death.
Memorial bench unveiled in tribute
Now the pair have unveiled a bench in tribute to the late horse, showing off the memorial furniture in a wood-shop. The bench features a plaque which reads: “In loving memory of Herkules. A noble and gentle soul. Forever in our hearts. From everyone at Cannon Hall.”
A caption accompanying an Instagram post told fans: “We are back on the big telly with an emotional segment coming up on the brand new series of The Yorkshire Vet, which begins on Channel 5 at 8pm on August 13. Make sure you mark it on your diaries!”
Fans rushed to comment on the post, with one branding the bench “beautiful” as another said: “Can’t wait!”
