In a devastating social media announcement, former Chelsea youth player Lamisha Musonda has revealed he believes he has only days left to live. The 33-year-old Belgian issued an emotional statement, stating he is "struggling to get my health back" after a two-year battle with a serious illness.
A Promising Career Cut Short
Musonda joined Chelsea's academy from Anderlecht in 2012 alongside his brothers, Tika and Charly. He spent two years within the Blues' youth setup before departing in 2014 to return to Belgium, where he played for KV Mechelen.
His professional journey later took him to lower-league Spanish sides UE Llagostera and Palamós CF, and to Congolese giants TP Mazembe. He also earned nine caps for the Belgium Under-21 national team before retiring from football in 2020.
Heartbreaking Final Message
In his poignant update, written in both English and French, Musonda shared his grim prognosis and reflected on his life. "As I realise I only have a few days left, I also realise I had a lot of people by my side and I’ll always cherish the memories," he wrote. "Life is hard, but the view is great."
He elaborated on the severity of his condition, explaining his absence from social media. "These last two years have been particularly difficult and challenging for me. It is with great sadness that I announce that I am struggling to get my health back," Musonda stated. "I have to face facts – my health is critical, and I’m now fighting to survive."
The former footballer expressed deep regret at not being able to thank everyone in person, saying, "I was fortunate enough to have a beautiful early life, and I still have so much to offer."
A Legacy of Humility and Strength
Following an outpouring of support, Musonda posted a second message of gratitude. He asked to be remembered not for accolades, but for the connections he made.
"I want to be remembered as someone who didn’t fall in love with the adulations," he wrote. "But the good people I met along the way… the teammates, the teachers, the coaches, the bus drivers... It’s for them, I fight and stay strong. Let’s win each day at a time."
His younger brother, Charly Musonda, made seven senior appearances for Chelsea and had a loan spell at Celtic. His other brother, Tika, has retired and now works as a scout.
