Nottingham Forest are on the verge of appointing Vítor Pereira as their fourth head coach of the season, following the sacking of Sean Dyche in the early hours of Thursday. The Portuguese, formerly of Wolves, has held talks with the club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, having worked under him at Olympiakos.
Dyche’s tenure lasted just 114 days, succeeding Ange Postecoglou who survived only 40. Despite losing only one of his final six Premier League games, Dyche had a strained relationship with the squad and faced fan discontent after Wednesday’s goalless draw with Wolves.
Pereira has been out of work since his dismissal by Wolves in November. He spent 11 months at Molineux, guiding them to Premier League survival last season, experience that has weighed in his favour during Forest’s quick search for a successor. The club is keen to find a manager with strong man-management skills, akin to Nuno Espírito Santo, who was popular before leaving in September—a quality lacking in the two subsequent appointments.
If confirmed, Pereira will have a week to prepare for Forest’s Europa League tie against Fenerbahce next Thursday, following their FA Cup exit. The club sit 17th in the Premier League, three points above the relegation zone.
