Former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff has been named head coach of the Northern Superchargers men's team for The Hundred, marking his first head coaching role. The 45-year-old replaces James Foster after the Superchargers finished bottom of the table in 2023, winning only two of eight matches.
Flintoff's appointment comes 11 months after a serious crash while filming Top Gear, in which he suffered facial injuries and broken ribs. He has since returned to cricket, working with England's white-ball team in September and the Lions side this winter.
Flintoff expressed his enthusiasm for the role, saying: 'I am excited to have been appointed Head Coach of the Northern Superchargers men’s team. My time with the England Men’s team has been a reminder of just how special cricket is to me, and I’m relishing the opportunity to be back amongst it.'
Northern Superchargers Chair Kirsty Bashforth welcomed Flintoff, describing him as 'an inspirational figure who has huge respect across the game of cricket.' The team plays its home matches at Headingley.
