Arsenal take on the lowest-ranked team left in the Carabao Cup this evening as they face League Two Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium. The Gunners visit the ground for the first time in a competitive fixture, with the two clubs having never met before.
Fleetwood are one of just three teams from outside the Premier League remaining in the competition, while Arsenal are the only top-flight side not facing a league rival. The hosts sit 18th in the fourth tier after 13 games.
Arsenal's Cup Record Under Arteta
The Gunners reached the final of the Carabao Cup last season, losing out to a Nico O'Reilly double at Wembley. Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have treated England's secondary cup competition seriously, reaching the final once and making the semi-finals on two occasions.
At the weekend, Arsenal made up ground on league leaders Manchester City, comfortably dispatching Everton 2-0 at the Emirates as their title rivals dropped points to Aston Villa.
Fleetwood's Road to the Last 16
Fleetwood entered the Carabao Cup at the first round stage, beating divisional rivals Chesterfield 1-0 at home. They cruised past another League Two side, Shrewsbury, 4-0 before claiming a Championship scalp with a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United in the previous round. It is the first time Fleetwood have reached the last 16 of the competition.
Arteta's Gunners entered the competition in the previous round, defeating Premier League rivals Ipswich Town 4-2 away from home.
